Jim Freeman, Senior Director of Multicultural Affairs, will partner with the Omaha (NE) Chapter in ensuring the success of this new initiative in the Central Area.

"We are hoping to implement the program with 20 – 25 young ladies and will need at least 20 – 25 mentors to assist with the program," said Janice Garnett, chair of the National Trends Committee. "Links will serve as mentors, but we are also reaching out to other women throughout the community interested in making a difference in the lives of young women in the Omaha community."

If you are interested in being a mentor for this program, please download and complete the mentor interest profile and return it to Janice Garnett (janice.garnett@ops.org) by January 12, 2015. Questions may also be directed to Janice Garnett.

<![CDATA[Literacy Night a Success]]>Fri, 21 Nov 2014 15:30:44 GMThttp://omahachapterlinksinc.org/blog-omaha-links/literacy-night-a-successPicture
On November 6, 2014, the Omaha Chapter of the Links, Incorporated in partnership with the Noblemen and Omaha Public Schools hosted a Literacy Night at Howard Kennedy Elementary.

Over 100 families participated in the literacy night and over 400 books were collected for students in headstart through sixth grade. In addition to receiving a book, parents and students participated in family friendly literacy activities with teachers and a guest presenter shared the relevancy of reading to children at home. Teachers from the school even dressed as their favorite story book character! The purpose of this activity was to demonstrate the importance of reading, setting goals and being successful.

"The literacy night was a success," said Link Sandra McGhee who was integral in the planning for this event. "Our goal was to put at least one book in the hand of every child in attendance and we did so."
